ABOUT BANKS & SONS MOBILE WELDING SERVICE LLC
Our Story
In 2023, Banks and Sons Mobile Welding Service LLC was formed by Steven and Katy Banks as a family-owned and operated business. The foundation of our business stems from our rearing. Katy and I were both raised in rural environments. Katy was born and raised in East Texas outside of Lufkin. Her family heritage centered around logging. Steven was born in Arizona and raised in southeastern Washington outside of Pasco. Steven’s family heritage is found in northwestern North Carolina in the Appalachian Mountains where his extended family farmed. With our rural upbringing, it is our intention to provide our clients with the highest quality of customer service possible. The bedrock of our business is a commitment to integrity and ethical conduct. We want potential clients to know, that if we give you our word, we honor and fulfill our commitments.
Steven is a journeyman Steamfitter and Boilermaker. He possesses 37 years of experience in pipe and structural welding. In addition to being a certified welder, Steven is also an experienced structural and piping designer with 26 years of experience in designing complex piping systems and structures. Steven has worked in nearly every western state in the United States. His work has taken him to Alaska where he worked for many years in the oilfields of the North Slope. Steven has worked in pulp and paper mills, power plants, and numerous oil refineries throughout the Western United States. Steven possesses several years of experience working in the Portland Ship Repair Yard for Vigor Marine as a loftsman, shipfitter and structural welder.
At Banks and Sons Mobile Welding Service LLC, we believe in operating safely, ethically, and in the most sustainable manner possible, while partnering with our clients and suppliers in their own pursuit of sustainability. PIPELINE INTEGRITY MAINTENANCE
Aging pipelines require regular maintenance, and we are please to partner with farmers, ranchers, irrigation districts, and oil and gas companies to assist them in protecting their collective investment. The process of pipeline integrity ensures pipelines are properly and safely designed and operational. The goal is to safeguard pipelines from damage and defects all the way through their life spans, from design to decommissioning.
Because pipelines are exposed to extreme conditions, taking steps to improve and maintain pipeline integrity is essential. Understanding how a pipeline might fail is crucial, as it helps to better anticipate failures and enact proper pipeline integrity management (PIM). There are several potential causes of pipeline failure, including:
Corrosion: This process happens naturally when metal materials deteriorate through oxidation. In regard to pipelines, corrosion can cause metal loss in the pipe, which leads to weakening and compromises the overall integrity of the pipe. There are two main types of corrosion—external, which is the outside material of the pipe reacting with the surrounding environment, and internal, which refers to interior pipe corrosion from the products traveling through it. Other specific types of corrosion can occur on pipeline components, such as seam corrosion.
External forces: one of the most common pipeline failure causes is external damage. For example, natural forces like landslides or temperature extremes, or other outside forces, such as vandalism, can lead to failures in pipeline integrity. These causes can be beyond human control, but PIM for external forces is still necessary.
Internal pressure: The internal pressure within pipelines is often cyclical, which can lead to eventual interior wear. This kind of failure is more likely to happen over time as the inner wall of the pipe experiences pressure fluctuations.
Material failure: Sometimes, defects can be present in the material manufacturing process for pipelines. This issue can lead to incomplete bonding in the steel components used to produce the pipe. While rare in modern pipeline production processes, impurities are still a possibility and can lead to failure later on.
At Banks and Sons Mobile Welding Service LLC we have the knowledge, skills, and ability to fabricate pipe spool pieces, fabricate headers, fabricate and install Type-A and Type-B pipe sleeves, perform valve repair and replacement, and modify and/or repair pipeline systems to evolving needs with tie-in work, installation of valves, cut-out and replacement of pipe sections.
